Verb Tenses: Simple and Perfect

Simple Tenses

  • Simple Present: Used for habits, general truths, and future scheduled events.
    • Example: I eat breakfast every morning.
  • Simple Past: Used for completed actions in the past.
    • Example: She played tennis yesterday.
  • Simple Future: Used for future plans or predictions.
    • Example: We will travel to Europe next year.

Perfect Tenses

  • Present Perfect: Used for actions that started in the past and continue to the present, or for past actions with a recent result.
    • Example: I have lived in this city for five years.
  • Past Perfect: Used for actions that happened before another action in the past.
    • Example: He had finished his homework before he went out.
  • Future Perfect: Used for actions that will be completed by a specific time in the future.
    • Example: They will have arrived by the time we get there.
