Incident vs Accident

An incident is a broader term that refers to any unexpected event or occurrence, whether it results in harm or not. It can be minor, like a near-miss, or more serious, like a property damage or injury.

An accident is a specific type of incident that results in harm or damage. It's an unplanned event that leads to unintended consequences.

In summary:

  • All accidents are incidents, but not all incidents are accidents.
  • Incidents can be minor or major, with or without harm.
  • Accidents always involve harm or damage.

Understanding this distinction is important in various fields, especially in safety and risk management.
