 What is a Verb?

A verb is a word that expresses an action or a state of being. It's the heart of a sentence, showing what's happening.

Types of Verbs

There are two main types of verbs:

  1. Action Verbs: These verbs express actions.

    • Examples: run, jump, eat, sleep, talk, write, sing, dance.
  2. Linking Verbs: These verbs connect the subject to a noun or adjective that renames or describes the subject.

    • Examples: is, am, are, was, were, become, seem, appear.

Verb Tenses

Verbs change form to show different tenses, which indicate when an action takes place. Here are the main tenses:

  • Present Tense: Happening now.
    • Example: I run every day.
  • Past Tense: Happened in the past.
    • Example: I ran yesterday.
  • Future Tense: Will happen in the future.
    • Example: I will run tomorrow.
